Béjart Ballet Lausanne: sublime every time
With its dancers of hair-raising talents and its breathtaking shows, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne generates enchantment wherever it goes. In Lausanne and in the four corners of the globe.
It was in 1987 that Maurice Béjart (1927 - 2007) settled in Lausanne, after dissolving the 20th-Century Ballet. Very quickly he founded the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, made up of some thirty dancers, then in 1992, the Rudra School, which welcomed students from around the world.
Since then, the master never ceased to leave his indelible mark on contemporary dance. From the Sacre du printemps to La Tour, from his Souvenir de Leningrad to L’Enfant-Roi, without forgetting his Messe pour le temps présent, Boléro and L’oiseau de feu, Maurice Béjart created almost 200 choreographies. Performed on the stages of the most prestigious theatres of our planet – the Bolshoi, the Cairo Opera, the Paris Opera – the performances of the Béjart Ballet have always met with success.
Now its master’s orphan, the company, directed by Gil Roman, continues to delight a vast public, both local and from abroad. True to its city of adoption, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne gives 2 series of performances in Lausanne every year in spring and in winter.
