With its varied landscapes, large open spaces and modern infrastructure, the Lake Geneva Region holds all the cards to host major sports events. Before the year 2020 that brings the Youth Olympic Games, 2016 promises great competitions and grand moments of joy and sharing.
Spoilt by nature, the Lake Geneva Region offers breath-taking mountains, unpredictable lakes and vast expanses to roam. Countless sports organisations have chosen these landscapes and the innovative infrastructure as their play area.
From the beginning of the year, the virtuoso snow and ice athletes have a whale of a time in the ski resorts of the Jura and the Alps of the Lake Geneva Region. You will even see hot-air balloons in Château-d'Oex and sled dogs in Les Mosses.
The summer days are the time for marathon runners, cyclists and mountain-bikers who compete in iconic races or, exclusively in 2016, in the Swiss Mountain Biking and Cross-Country Championship in Echallens and the orienteering race in Joux Valley.
All these disciplines, which attract thousands of spectators in the Canton, have sportsmanship and a friendly atmosphere in common.
