All Swiss food lovers know the village of Goumoens, for its tranquil countryside but mostly for its typical dessert: Gâteau de Goumoens. Made with eggs, milk and sugar, it can be found and tasted in local bakeries and groceries.
Near Echallens, between Lausanne and Yverdon-les-Bains, Goumoens is attached to its traditions, including a local delicacy called Gâteau or Taillé de Goumoens. This sweet treat comes in the form of a big cake to share, made of sugar, milk, flour, butter and eggs. You might find the recipe in a book or on a website but nothing can take the place of the skill passed down from generation to generation.
Every two years, Goumoens has a festival dedicated to its typical dessert. For two days, artisans sell and demonstrate how the cake is made, along with artistic, musical and kids’ events and other specialities to enjoy.
