The Caveau Corto in Grandvaux – the last home of the comic book creator Hugo Pratt – owes its name to Pratt’s hero: Corto Maltese. Here, 13 winemakers take turns in serving their finest wines as their guests enjoy a spectacular view of the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards.
It’s a strange name for a wine cellar but when they see the characteristic outline of the statue on Place Hugo Pratt, even occasional comic book readers understand the tribute to the hero Corto Maltese. In addition to the statue, there are drawings and a permanent collection to complete the reference.
The modern wine cellar with its large windows and terrace offers a spectacular view of Lake Geneva and the vines. Open from April to October, Caveau Corto organises regular, now unmissable, events in the region, like a soirée brisolée (typical autumn dish) or a festin d’escargots. Delighted to meet their customers, the 13 winemakers take turns in serving their fine wines on Friday between 5 and 9 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday between 4 and 9 p.m. Outside these times, the wine cellar can be booked for private events, for 20 to 60 people.
