Le Corbusier’s villa “Le Lac”
Le Corbusier’s parents inhabited “Le Lac”, a small house built in 1923-24 on the lakeshore in Corsier. It is the first example of Le Corbusier’s modern architecture in Switzerland.
As the first example of Le Corbusier’s modern architecture in Switzerland, “Le Lac” (the most modest of all “white villas”) can today be considered as an authentic architectural test. It illustrates Le Corbusier's principles very well, for example the search for the human scale, the care bestowed on proportions or the optimal use of each and every surface.
Le Corbusier’s parents settled in the villa in 1924. His father died a year later, but his mother lived there for many years. Some of the furniture items and objects exhibited in the villa have always been there, such as the writing desk and the chest of drawers (designed by Le Corbusier in the years of his youth), Madame Jeanneret's chair with a tip-up back and the table in the living room.
