Lutry, in celebration of wine

On the shore of Lake Geneva, the medieval village Lutry stands out in front the Lavaux vineyards. Its white wine Lutry AOC and Villette AOC has a place of honour during the harvesting festival.

Lutry has retained the characteristic features of a medieval village (listed of national interest), standing out in front of the terraced Lavaux vineyard, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Lutry traces back its origins to the Neolithic period. Initially a fishing village and a Roman castrum, Lutry owes its wine-growing development to the Benedictine monastery founded in the 12th century.

Being both south and south-west facing, the Lutry vineyard takes advantage of “double sunshine” from the sky and the lake on its 130 hectares representing the Lutry AOC and Villette AOC appellations. This Chasselas-based white wine is also cultivated in reputed estates: Bannerettes, Bolliattaz, Château de Montagny and Domaine du Daley. On board the Lavaux Express, a tourist train on rubber tires, a one-hour commented circuit describes the vine and Lavaux.

Hosting the one and only harvesting festival in the Canton of Vaud, Lutry welcomes 20,000 persons during three days of celebrations.
