La Rambertia, Alpine botanical garden

The Rambertia Alpine garden presents 1,000 Alpine plant species on Rochers-de-Naye at an altitude of over 2,000 metres. This garden, which is accessible by train, is dedicated to Eugène Rambert, a poet from Montreux.

The Alpine botanical garden La Rambertia nestles between two rocky outcrops at the summit of Rochers-de-Naye (2,045 m), on a sheer slope descending towards the valley below.

La Rambertia protects and cultivates nearly 1,000 Alpine plant species, among which there are two types of Edelweiss and 600 local varieties: Dianthus glacialis, Primula spectabilis, Adonis vernalis, Gentiana clusii, Lilium bulbiferum, Leontopodium alpinum, Potentilla aurea, Arnica montana, Clematis alpina, Scutellaria alpina, among others.

Founded in 1896, La Rambertia pays tribute to Eugène Rambert (1830-1886), a historian, teacher, storyteller and poet, author of "The Swiss Alps", a comprehensive 6-volume survey of scientific observations, historic tales, ramblings and poetry.

Cultivating plants at such an altitude is a permanent challenge. Snow permitting, La Rambertia is open from June to mid-October. The site can be easily accessed with the Montreux-Rochers-de-Naye cogwheel train, which offers a breathtaking ascent.
