The "Escargot Rouge" grape variety, a new red wine from the canton of Vaud, is available in two versions, "Original" or "Sélection". It will be available in specialised shops and retail outlets, as well as from each partner winery.
The Office des Vins Vaudois (OVV), together with some forty winegrowers, launched a new red wine under the brand name “Escargot Rouge” in autumn 2021.
This variety highlights the quality and know-how of Vaud wines and also demonstrates that the canton of Vaud, known above all for its white wines, also produces excellent reds. The snail, the brand’s symbol, represents both the time needed to produce a quality red wine and the nutrient-rich soil of the canton of Vaud.
Each producer will create their own “Escargot Rouge”, in “Original” (fruity, round) and “Sélection” (structured, aged in oak barrels) versions. The products will be available from specialist shops and retail outlets, as well as from each winemaker involved.
The vineyards of Vaud extend around Lake Geneva (La Côte, Lavaux and Chablais regions) and the lakes of Neuchâtel and Morat (Bonvillars, Côtes de l'Orbe and Vully regions). In 2020, some 24 million litres of wine were produced, of which approximately 60% was white and
