Vallorbe, magical caves and the power of water

At the foot of the Jura, 30 minutes from Yverdon-les-Bains, in a beautiful natural setting, Vallorbe’s museums tell its story.

Vallorbe, in the Yverdon-les-Bains region, is known for its family tourist activities. Its caves with their stunning limestone landscapes sculpted by the Orbe contain the finest geological formation in Switzerland enhanced by spectacular lighting. The visit ends with the Fairy Treasure Trove, a collection of 250 minerals.

Visit the Pré-Giroud artillery fort to find out what its purpose was: to stop all foreign armies getting through the Col de Jougne pass. The underground barracks accommodated up to 200 soldiers.

At the Grandes Forges, in the heart of Vallorbe, the Iron and Railway Museum tells of the influence this industry had on the development and culture of Vallorbe.

At Juraparc du Mont d’Orzeires, wolves, bison, a family of bear and extremely rare Przevalski horses roam in partial freedom to the delight of children and nature lovers.
