Lausanne

The capital of the canton of Vaud is a jewel in all seasons. Visitors like to take a stroll from the shores of Lake Geneva through the vibrant downtown area to the cobbled city streets and have a break in one of the shops or restaurants to discover local gastronomy and wines.

As Olympic capital and city of culture, Lausanne hosts unique venues and events such as the Olympic Museum, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, the Museum of Art brut or Athlétissima. Lausanne is a dynamic city dotted with many green spaces. On the shores of Lake Geneva and in the city centre, museums, clubs and alternative art scenes offer a selection of diverse and original events. The gastronomic range, which is just as plentiful, comprises restaurants headed by star chefs, traditional inns (called “pintes”) and cosmopolitan establishments with multiple influences.
At the gates of the city, the terraced vineyards of Lavaux UNESCO are one of the most beautiful landscapes of Switzerland. It is easy to organise an excursion from Lausanne to explore its picturesque paths and behold a breathtaking view. You can also enjoy wines without leaving the centre of the city, since the city of Lausanne is Switzerland’s largest public owner of vineyards.
