The infectious enthusiasm of its volunteer workers rubs off on all visitors to the Solacyre Refuge. In the heights above Leysin, Solacyre fondue evenings are characteristically nostalgic affairs. You could say that part of the ski resort’s history is ingrained in these very restaurant tables.
Solacyre restaurant was built at the top of the Solacyre chairlift in 1960 on what used to form part of Leysin’s ski domain. Having shut down the chairlift several years ago, the restaurant suffered the same fate. Until that is a group of dedicated volonteers decided to reopen the restaurant’s doors so that hikers could make the most of this idyllic location.
Setting out from the Chamois quarry you can walk up to the chalet in summer or on snowshoes or touring skis in winter. The magical setting is well worth the effort as Solacyre offers a breathtaking view over the surrounding mountains. The restaurant terrace or the cosy woodclad dining room are both perfect places to enjoy a hearty fondue with friends.
