Yverdon-les-Bains - Exhibition
The Contemporary Arts Centre in Yverdon-les-Bains (CACY) is proud to host the lively and ephemeral artwork of French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot. For three months, this amazing acoustic arrangement, which has been exhibited throughout the world, will combine electric guitars and birdsong for unique and original concerts.
The lively and ephemeral artwork of Céleste Boursier-Mougenot entitled From Here to Ear (v.22), is to be understood as an organic whole - imagined in close relationship with the architecture of the CACY, which will be transformed for the occasion into a giant aviary. This amazing acoustic installation will - for a period of three months - associate electric guitars with 88 zebra finches, adorable little birds from the Australian steppes.
These gregarious songbirds nest in groups on strange perching trees made of fifteen amplified electric guitars and basses, ready to receive them and playing pre-registered rock, punk and metal chords depending on how the finches move on the guitar strings. Whereas the sound they generate overlaps with their birdsong, the improvised concert of their claws on the electric guitars is regulated by the flapping of the birds’ wings and the movement of visitors as they wander around the halls in which the floors are covered with sand and grass.
