With 2,200 square yards of topical exhibitions, the Manoir de Ban and its Hollywood studio set the scene for the humour and emotion that were so dear to Charlie Chaplin and that conquered the world. Thanks to the expertise of Grévin, true-to-life wax statues accompany visitors throughout. Children and adults won't be able to resist taking out-of-time selfies: Here with Charlie Chaplin and the Kid - an emblematic figure in one of his most famous films - there with Einstein, whom Chaplin admired. In the “Studio”, where the streets of London have been recreated, it’s easy for visitors to take snaps of themselves in the most famous postures and sets of this great man of the 7th art. Each winter, the lighting effects and the magic of the Christmas season create an end-of-year dream atmosphere indoors and outdoors in the adjoining park.

The Tramp Restaurant is accessible without passing through the museum. It prolongs the Chaplin spirit and the impression of meeting the artist thanks to a setting taken from one of the key scenes of Modern Times. Charlie Chaplin, a Hollywood star on the Swiss Riviera

Charlie Chaplin (1889 London - 1977 Vevey) was one of the most creative film professionals of the silent film period. The actor, director, producer, screenwriter, writer and music composer was noticed by Hollywood thanks to his miming and clowning talent. During his European tour to present his film “Limelight” in 1952, this genius of the 7th art was prohibited from returning to the USA because of McCarthyism. Forced into exile, the Chaplin family fell in love with the Manoir de Ban in Corsier, a neoclassical mansion built in 1840 and surrounded by a 34-acre park with century-old trees.

From 1953 to Chaplin’s death in 1977, the population of Vevey got accustomed to coming across a Hollywood star in the cobbled streets or on the famous market square. It was none other than the great Charlie Chaplin, who had chosen to settle with his family in Corsier-sur-Vevey in the Manoir de Ban offering peace and quiet and exceptional views of Lake Geneva and the Alps. The international star lived there for 25 years with his wife Oona and their children, of whom four were born in Switzerland. According to his last will, the artist rests in the cemetery of Corsier next to his wife. More than 40 years after the disappearance of this cinema giant, the Vaudois Riviera continues to pay tribute to Charlie Chaplin in various emblematic places: the museum Chaplin's World by Grévin in Corsier, the bronze statue of the Tramp on the lakeside promenades of Vevey as well as the huge 40-metre high murals visible on the two "Chaplin Towers" in the district of Gilamont in Vevey. While taking a stroll in this charming city of 20,000 inhabitants, you may encounter references to the Tramp, either in the name of a coffee shop or a window dressing. There’s also the Chaplin Run held each year since 1982 in the park of the Manoir de Ban and the surroundings of Corsier. All this evidences the region’s attachment to this humane character with an international reputation.
