For travellers by car or camping-car, the canton of Vaud is connected to the rest of Switzerland and neighbouring France thanks to well-maintained motorways. As in the rest of the country, all motorway tolls are paid by the purchase of one single toll sticker. Costing CHF 40, it is valid until 31 January of the following year and can be purchased at post offices, service stations and manned customs offices.Boat
Surrounded by the lakes of Geneva and Neuchâtel, the canton of Vaud is also accessible by boat. The CGN
-serviced crossings between France (Evian, Thonon-les-Bains, Yvoire) and Switzerland (Lausanne
) are very popular. To the north of the canton, the shipping company NML
connects three lakes (Neuchâtel, Bienne and Murten) and four cantons (Vaud, Neuchâtel, Bern and Fribourg).
