In high season (May-Oct), the famous Chocolate Train brings visitors to the House of Gruyère, production site of the famous swiss cheese. Then, he will explore the medieval town of Gruyères. Finally, the visitor continues his journey to the legendary Maison Cailler Nestlé in Broc where the secrets of chocolate making are revealed. From 2019 on, only the breathtakingly scenic rail route from Montreux to Monbovon will operate due to technical reasons. Transfers from Montbovon to Gruyères and Broc, and back to Montreux, will be made by bus
This trip on the trail of two national treasures – chocolate and gruyère – is only available on board the luxury “Belle Epoque” or panoramic carriages.
The first stop of the morning is the Maison Cailler where visitors can enjoy an interactive audio-visual tour on the history and secrets of chocolate making.
In the afternoon, the train continues on its way to the Gruyère cheese factory, the birthplace of the AOP hard cheese produced for centuries and exported around the world. Naturally, the culmination of both visits is a chance to try the Cailler chocolate or Gruyère AOP.
The Chocolate Train runs every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in May, June, September and October and every day in July and August.
