Located between Grandvaux, Cully and Epesses, in the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards, the Riex wine cellar is run by the region’s winemakers who take turns serving their wines.
Created by the village’s producers, the Riex Caveau des vignerons is in an unusual place: beneath the clock tower of the chapel of St-Théodule, patron saint of winemakers.
Open from the end of April to mid-October, from Thursday to Saturday between 5 and 9 p.m and Sunday from 4 and 8 p.m, winemakers take turns in sharing their wines with visitors. For three weeks in the summer, the wine cellar is open every day, between 5 and 9 p.m. Outside these opening times, the winemakers welcome groups of 20 to 60 people for private tastings, accompanied with L’Etivaz AOP cheese and the famous saucisson vaudois sausage.
After the tasting, the Café de Riex – a favourite with connoisseurs – serves tasty meals and local produce in a typical “pinte vaudoise” (local expression meaning little restaurants).
